📌 QUESTION OF THE WEEK — JULY 5, 2026

❓ WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE? CAN ETERNITY BE PROVEN WITHOUT USING THE BIBLE?

Shammah (21) from Raleigh, North Carolina, writes:

"Good morning, Mr. James. First, let me say that I am an atheist. I do not believe in God, the Bible, heaven, hell, or an afterlife. Can you prove to me that there is an eternity without using the Bible? I bet my friends that you couldn't."

Shammah, thank you for your honesty and courage. Questions like yours deserve thoughtful answers, not ridicule.

Can anyone "prove" eternity in the same way we prove that 2+2=4? No. But there are compelling reasons to believe that our existence extends beyond physical death.

🔹 Consciousness: Science can describe brain activity, but it still cannot fully explain why we possess self-awareness, reason, morality, love, creativity, and the sense of "I."

🔹 Objective Morality: Most people believe that some things are truly right and others truly wrong. If morality is more than personal preference, then it points beyond mere matter and chemistry.

🔹 The Universe Itself: The astonishing order, precision, and fine-tuning of the universe continue to raise the question: Why does anything exist at all?

🔹 Human Longing: Across cultures and throughout history, humanity has consistently believed that death is not the end. While universal belief doesn't prove something is true, it does suggest that our longing for eternity may not be accidental.

🔹 The Question That Never Goes Away: Why do we ask about eternity in the first place? Perhaps because deep within us is the awareness that there is more to our existence than what we can see.

Shammah, I cannot force you to believe. But I would encourage you to keep asking questions, keep seeking truth, and never stop searching for answers. Sometimes the greatest discoveries begin with an honest question.
