Help Us Help Them Before Hope Runs Out

There is a phrase that I have heard countless times over the years of ministry: "I don't know how we're going to make it, but somehow we'll make it through today."

For many Americans, that statement may sound dramatic. Yet for millions of people living in developing nations, it is not dramatic at all—it is reality.

Every morning, countless families wake up wondering where their next meal will come from. Parents worry about how they will provide for their children. Communities struggle with limited resources, inadequate medical care, poor infrastructure, unemployment, and a lack of opportunities that many of us take for granted.

The simple comforts that many Americans enjoy every day—reliable electricity, clean water, transportation, healthcare, grocery stores, and access to churches—are often luxuries in other parts of the world.

As I write these words, my thoughts turn once again to the Philippines and the many regions throughout Asia where Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International serves.

The needs are great.

But the spiritual needs are even greater.

We Minister to the Whole Person

At Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International (POMI), we believe that ministry must reach the whole person—mind, body, soul, and spirit.

When people are hungry, we want to help feed them.

When they are discouraged, we want to encourage them.

When they are hurting, we want to comfort them.

When they are struggling, we want to stand beside them.

Yet we also understand something that many humanitarian organizations overlook.

Food is important.

Shelter is important.

Medicine is important.

But none of those things can fill the deepest need of the human heart.

Only Jesus Christ can do that.

You can satisfy the outward person with good works, but only the Gospel can satisfy the inward person.

You can provide a meal that lasts a day, but the Good News of Jesus Christ can transform an eternity.

That is why everything we do ultimately points people to Christ.

The Gospel Is Still the Answer

America faces enormous challenges.

Political division.

Economic uncertainty.

Family breakdown.

Addiction.

Depression.

Violence.

Moral confusion.

The list seems endless.

Yet despite these challenges, there are churches across this nation where the Gospel is faithfully preached every week. There are Christian radio stations, Bible bookstores, ministries, podcasts, television programs, websites, and countless opportunities for people to hear the message of Jesus Christ.

In many places throughout Asia and other developing regions, that is simply not the case.

Entire communities have little or no access to sound biblical teaching.

Many have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel.

Many have never owned a Bible.

Many have never met someone willing to sit down and explain who Jesus is and why He came.

Think about that for a moment.

Millions of people living without the hope that so many of us have heard since childhood.

That reality should move every believer to action.

Why We Go

People often ask us why we continue to invest our time, resources, prayers, and energy into missions.

The answer is simple.

Because Jesus told us to.

In Mark 16:15, Jesus said:

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

That command has never been rescinded.

The Great Commission is not merely a suggestion.

It is the mission of the Church.

It is why we travel.

It is why we preach.

It is why we teach.

It is why we distribute Bibles.

It is why we encourage pastors.

It is why we minister to children.

It is why we seek to meet practical needs.

Most importantly, it is why we tell people about Jesus Christ.

How You Can Help

The truth is that we cannot do this alone.

Every missionary effort depends upon people who are willing to stand behind the work through prayer, encouragement, and financial support.

Some are called to go.

Others are called to send.

Both are essential.

Today, I am asking you to prayerfully consider becoming part of what God is doing through Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International.

Pray for us.

Pray for open doors.

Pray for protection.

Pray for the people we serve.

Pray for souls to be saved.

And if the Lord lays it upon your heart, please consider supporting our outreach efforts financially.

Every gift—large or small—helps us continue bringing practical help and the hope of the Gospel to people who desperately need both.

Help Us Help Them

The people we serve may live thousands of miles away.

You may never meet them.

You may never know their names.

But your prayers can reach them.

Your generosity can touch them.

And the Gospel can change them forever.

Help us help them—whoever "them" may be.

Together, we can bring hope where there is despair, light where there is darkness, and the life-changing message of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs Him.

Because while good works can improve a life, only the Gospel can transform a soul.

And that is a mission worth supporting.
