Is America on Life Support?

Magandang gabi, friends.

As my wife Cecilia and I wind down from celebrating our 47th wedding anniversary today, our hearts are filled with gratitude. One of the most meaningful moments of the day was hearing the song “47 Years (I’d Choose You Again)”—a beautiful reminder that faithfulness still matters in a world that often forgets the value of covenant.

But tonight my thoughts turn to something much larger.

Is America on life support?

Many people are asking that question today—and not without reason. Morally, socially, physically, and spiritually, our nation appears to be struggling for breath. Over the past 75 years we have watched a gradual drift from the moral foundations that once helped guide our culture. Institutions that once strengthened society are now often weakening it. Schools that once shaped character now too often resemble centers of training and ideological indoctrination.

The prophet warned long ago:

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil.” (Isaiah 5:20)

Today we see that warning unfolding before our eyes. Right is called wrong. Wrong is celebrated as right. The heart of man grows colder with each passing day, and the darkness we see in society is simply the outward reflection of that inward condition.

Yet this is not a message of despair.

There is still light at the end of the tunnel, and that light is Jesus Christ.

Only the Gospel has the power to transform hearts, restore families, rebuild communities, and give hope where despair has taken root. This is why Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International continues to labor to proclaim the Gospel in the Philippines and across Asia. Souls still matter. Eternity still matters.

Jesus commanded us:

“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)

The tragedy of our time is not opposition to the Gospel—it is silence from those who believe it. The worst thing a Christian can do in this hour is nothing. Yet many believers have quietly shelved this command, intimidated by culture, distracted by success, or satisfied with a form of religion that requires little sacrifice.

But the harvest is still waiting, and the light of Christ still shines in the darkest places.
