When Truth Is Rejected: The Rise of Strong Delusion
“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:11
This is one of the most sobering verses in all of Scripture. It forces us to ask a difficult question: Why would God allow—ηθ³ send—a strong delusion?
The answer is not found in God’s absence of love, but in humanity’s persistent rejection of truth.
When truth is repeatedly ignored, dismissed, or redefined, something begins to happen within the heart. It grows callous. What once convicted now feels optional. What was once clearly right or wrong becomes blurred into opinion. And over time, morality shifts from what is to what we think it should be.
This is where delusion takes root.
Not as an instant deception—but as the result of a gradual turning away.
Today, we are witnessing this unfold before our very eyes. Laws are being rewritten, not on the foundation of truth, but to satisfy the loudest voices. Cultural pressure often outweighs moral clarity. The old saying, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease,” has moved beyond common sense into shaping entire systems and structures.
But when volume replaces truth, deception is not far behind.
Strong delusion is not simply believing a lie—it is embracing it without hesitation, defending it without question, and rejecting any correction that challenges it.
And that is the danger.
Not that truth is unavailable—but that it is unwanted.
So where does that leave us?
Each of us must answer that personally. Will we pursue truth even when it is unpopular? Will we stand firm when the culture shifts? Or will we allow the noise around us to shape what we believe?
Because in the end, truth does not change—but our response to it does.
And that response determines far more than we may realize.
