Why Doesn’t God Just Stop Evil? A Biblical Perspective
One of the most common questions asked across generations is this:
If God is all-powerful, why doesn’t He simply step in and stop the evil happening in our world?
Scripture offers insight that helps us understand this deeply complex question.
📖 Jeremiah 17:9 tells us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked…”
This verse reveals a foundational truth — evil is not merely external; it originates within the fallen human heart. The violence, injustice, and brokenness we see around us are reflections of humanity’s condition apart from God. If God were to remove evil without addressing the human heart, the problem would remain.
📖 1 Corinthians 15:25 declares, “For He must reign until He has put all enemies under His feet.”
This verse reminds us that God is not absent, indifferent, or defeated. Rather, history is moving toward a divine conclusion in which Christ ultimately conquers every form of evil. God’s apparent delay is not neglect — it is patience, allowing time for repentance, redemption, and the expansion of His kingdom.
Together, these truths reveal a powerful perspective:
👉 Evil persists because humanity possesses free will and a fallen nature
👉 God is actively working within history, moving toward a promised victory over evil
👉 What feels like delay is often divine patience, giving opportunity for salvation
The question, then, is not only why evil exists, but how we respond to God’s invitation in the midst of it.
