🔥 THEY SAID IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE—BUT GOD HAD THE FINAL WORD!
When Human Limitations Meet God's Unlimited Possibilities
An Encouraging Message from Senior Pastor James Langston
Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International — Philippines
📖 SCRIPTURE FOR TODAY — LUKE 18:27 (KJV)
"And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God."
Oh, how I love that Scripture!
And do you know what else I love?
I love it when someone looks at a situation and declares:
"There's no way!"
"That's impossible!"
"You're wasting your time!"
"It'll never happen!"
"You won't survive!"
"This is going to end in disaster!"
And my personal favorite:
"Who do you think you are? You can't possibly pull that off!"
Well, my friends, I have some wonderful news for you.
THEY MAY BE RIGHT ABOUT WHAT YOU CANNOT DO. BUT THEY DON'T GET THE FINAL WORD ABOUT WHAT GOD CAN DO!
You see, sometimes people aren't trying to discourage you. They're simply looking at your circumstances through the limitations of human understanding.
They see the obstacles.
They see the lack of money.
They see the lack of experience.
They see the closed doors.
They see everything that could possibly go wrong.
But what they cannot always see is the God who specializes in making a way where there appears to be no way!
And sometimes, if we're being truthful, we're the ones saying those things to ourselves!
🙌 ONE WORD FROM GOD CHANGES EVERYTHING!
I've learned something during my walk with the Lord.
One word from God can turn everything that might have been into a "GOD DID IT!" moment!
Think about that for a moment.
Abraham and Sarah were far beyond the age when people normally expected to have children.
But God had made a promise.
Moses stood before the Red Sea with an Egyptian army approaching from behind.
But God made a way.
Joshua faced the fortified walls of Jericho.
But God had a plan.
David faced a giant named Goliath.
But God had already prepared a shepherd boy for that encounter.
And when Jesus stood before the tomb of Lazarus, death itself appeared to have won.
But one command from Jesus changed everything!
"Lazarus, come forth." — John 11:43
My friends, the circumstances may have appeared impossible, but they were never beyond God's power.
And that same God is still God today!
🚂 HITCH YOUR WAGON OF FAITH TO THE JESUS TEAM!
Now, here's something I want you to remember.
When you hitch your wagon of faith to the Jesus team, don't be surprised when God takes you somewhere you never imagined going!
But let me add something important.
Faith does not mean that every idea we have is automatically God's will.
It does not mean we can make any demand and expect God to fulfill it according to our timetable.
And it certainly does not mean we will never experience disappointment, opposition, mistakes, or hardship.
Faith means trusting God enough to follow Him even when we don't understand everything He's doing.
It means obeying when the road ahead is unclear.
It means remaining faithful when progress seems painfully slow.
And sometimes it means surrendering a perfectly good plan because God has something entirely different in mind.
The greatest miracle may not be God giving you everything you wanted. It may be God leading you into something you never knew you needed to do!
🌏 LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
When I look at Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International today, especially as Cecilia and I continue our missionary work here in the Philippines, I sometimes find myself reflecting upon where it all began.
And I smile.
Not because everything has been easy.
Not because I had all the answers.
And certainly not because I've done everything perfectly.
Far from it!
I remember our beginnings as a ministry.
There was so much I did not know.
There were things I thought I understood that I later discovered I didn't understand nearly as well as I believed.
There were mistakes.
Some small.
Some costly.
And yes, some mistakes I made more than once!
Have you ever done that?
You learn a lesson, convince yourself you've mastered it, and then find yourself facing almost the same situation again!
I have.
But I would like to believe that over the years I've learned a few things from those experiences.
I've learned to listen more carefully.
I've learned not to mistake enthusiasm for preparation.
I've learned that every open door is not necessarily a door God wants me to walk through.
And I've learned that sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is admit:
"Lord, I don't know what I'm doing. But I know You do!"
That kind of honesty can become the beginning of genuine spiritual growth.
🇵🇭 IN 1998, THE PHILIPPINES WASN'T EVEN ON MY MINISTRY ROADMAP!
Now, consider this.
If someone had told me back in 1998 that one day Cecilia and I would be carrying out missionary work in the Philippines through Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International, I wonder what my response would have been.
At that time, it simply wasn't on my mind.
I had responsibilities.
I had plans.
I had dreams.
And like most people, I had some idea of what I believed my future might look like.
But God wasn't finished writing the story.
Years passed.
Experiences accumulated.
Doors opened.
Other doors closed.
The Lord began dealing with my heart concerning ministry and missions.
And what once seemed distant eventually became a calling that could no longer be ignored.
Now, here we are.
IN THE PHILIPPINES!
Working toward a vision of reaching families, helping struggling communities, sharing the Gospel, and developing ministry resources that can make a lasting difference.
Who would have imagined it?
Not me in 1998!
But that's one of the beautiful things about walking with God.
You don't have to know the entire journey to take the next step of obedience.
✝️ FOUR WORDS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR FUTURE
There is a prayer I've learned to leave room for in every plan I make.
It's not a complicated prayer.
It doesn't require theological degrees or extraordinary vocabulary.
It's simply this:
"THY WILL BE DONE!"
In Luke 22:42, Jesus prayed:
"Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done."
Those words were spoken in a moment of tremendous suffering and surrender.
They remind us that genuine faith is not merely asking God to bless what we have already decided to do.
Sometimes genuine faith means allowing God to change our direction entirely.
I like to think of it this way.
Whenever you make your plans, leave a little space marked "NOT MY WILL, BUT YOURS BE DONE."
Leave that space open.
Don't fill it with your own expectations.
Don't close it because someone says your dream is impossible.
Don't assume that because something hasn't happened yet, it never will.
And don't become so attached to your own plans that you cannot recognize when God is directing you somewhere else.
Because I can tell you from experience:
GOD HAS A WAY OF SURPRISING PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO FOLLOW HIM!
💪 DON'T CONFUSE DELAY WITH DEFEAT!
Perhaps you're reading this today and wondering whether your efforts have been in vain.
You've prayed.
You've worked.
You've sacrificed.
You've made mistakes.
You've corrected those mistakes.
And still, the results don't look anything like you expected.
Someone has already told you to give up.
Someone else has reminded you how unlikely your dream is.
And perhaps there's a quiet voice inside you whispering, "Maybe they're right."
My friend, before you surrender, ask yourself something.
"Has God told me to stop, or have I simply grown tired of waiting?"
Those are two entirely different things.
Sometimes God redirects us.
Sometimes He closes a door.
Sometimes He asks us to wait.
And sometimes He gives us the strength to keep walking through circumstances that would have defeated us years earlier.
But remember this:
A delay is not necessarily a denial, and difficulty is not proof that God has abandoned you.
Continue praying.
Continue listening.
Continue preparing.
Continue doing what you know is right.
And leave the outcome in God's hands.
❤️ A WORD TO OUR FRIENDS, FOLLOWERS, AND SUPPORTERS
As I write this message from the Philippines, I am reminded that our ministry's journey is still unfolding.
There are families we hope to help.
Children we want to reach.
Communities facing poverty and hardship.
People who need food, clothing, shelter, medical assistance, encouragement, and, above all, the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.
Our vision is greater than our present resources.
Our needs are real.
Our challenges are significant.
And there are days when the distance between where we are and where we hope to be seems enormous.
But I have not forgotten Luke 18:27.
"The things which are impossible with men are possible with God."
I don't know every detail of what tomorrow holds for Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International.
I don't know every person God may bring alongside us.
I don't know every opportunity that may appear.
But I do know this:
We have a responsibility to remain faithful, work diligently, steward what God places in our hands, and love the people He has called us to serve.
And we invite you to be part of that journey.
Pray with us.
Encourage us.
Share our ministry's work.
And, if the Lord places it upon your heart and you are able, consider supporting our missionary outreach.
Because sometimes the answer to someone's prayer arrives through the willing hands of another person.
🔥 HERE'S MY CHALLENGE TO YOU TODAY!
The next time someone tells you:
"That's impossible!"
Don't become angry.
Don't argue.
Don't spend all your energy trying to prove them wrong.
Simply remember whose hands your future rests in.
And when someone says:
"It'll never happen!"
Remember Abraham.
Remember Moses.
Remember Joshua.
Remember David.
Remember Lazarus.
And remember that the God who worked through their circumstances is not limited by yours.
But above all, remember Jesus' example of surrender:
"NOT MY WILL, BUT THINE, BE DONE."
Because when God's will becomes more important than our own ambitions, we are finally in a position to follow wherever He leads.
And one day, you may look back over the road you've traveled, remember all the doubts, disappointments, detours, and difficulties, and say with tears of gratitude:
"I COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS BY MYSELF!"
"I DIDN'T KNOW HOW IT WOULD HAPPEN!"
"I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THE ROAD WOULD LEAD!"
"BUT LOOK WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE!"
And someone standing nearby may simply shake their head and say:
"How in the world did that happen?"
That's when you smile and answer:
🙌 GOD DID IT!
Not because you were perfect.
Not because you never made a mistake.
Not because you had unlimited resources.
But because you trusted the One whose power is not limited by human impossibilities.
Never underestimate what God can accomplish through an ordinary person who is willing to say an extraordinary "YES" to His will!
🙏 LET US PRAY
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that what appears impossible to humanity is never beyond Your power.
Forgive us for the times we have allowed fear, doubt, disappointment, and the opinions of others to overshadow our trust in You.
Teach us to recognize Your voice, follow Your direction, and surrender our plans when Your purposes lead us elsewhere.
Help us learn from our mistakes without allowing those mistakes to define our future.
Strengthen those who are weary.
Encourage those who are discouraged.
Give wisdom to those facing difficult decisions.
And remind every person reading this message that their circumstances are never greater than Your ability to sustain them.
Continue guiding Pilgrim Outreach Ministries International as we serve the people of the Philippines.
Open the doors You would have us enter, close those that are not part of Your plan, and provide the wisdom, people, and resources necessary to accomplish the work You have entrusted to us.
Above all, Lord, may everything we do bring glory and honor to Your name.
In Jesus' mighty name, we pray.
AMEN AND AMEN!
