🌅 TOMORROW IS COMING—BUT ARE YOU PREPARED FOR WHAT IT BRINGS?

Part 3 of 4 | Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: The Choices That Shape Eternity

Scripture Focus: James 4:14 (KJV)

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

EVERYBODY HAS PLANS FOR TOMORROW

Tomorrow, I'll start exercising.

Tomorrow, I'll begin saving money.

Tomorrow, I'll repair that relationship.

Tomorrow, I'll spend more time with my family.

Tomorrow, I'll get serious about my spiritual life.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow.

Isn't it interesting how much responsibility we place on a day we haven't even reached?

We schedule appointments.

We make travel arrangements.

We plan weddings, graduations, vacations, and retirement celebrations.

And there is nothing wrong with planning.

In fact, wise planning is part of responsible living.

But there's one thing we must never forget.

We can make plans for tomorrow, but we cannot guarantee that tomorrow will unfold according to those plans.

THE FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN—BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT MUST BE FEARED

James reminds us that life is brief.

Not to rob us of joy.

Not to discourage us from dreaming.

And certainly not to suggest that we should stop making plans.

Rather, Scripture encourages humility.

We do not know everything the future holds.

We cannot control every circumstance.

And we should never become so confident in our own plans that we forget our dependence upon God.

Proverbs 3:5–6 teaches us to trust in the Lord rather than relying solely upon our own understanding.

Faith doesn't mean abandoning responsibility. It means acknowledging God while exercising it.

You should still prepare for retirement.

You should still educate your children.

You should still pursue worthwhile goals.

You should still dream about the future.

But you should also ask:

"Lord, is this the direction You want me to go?"

YOUR DESTINY IS SHAPED BY THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE

There are circumstances in life that we do not choose.

We don't choose the family into which we're born.

We don't choose every hardship.

We don't control every illness, tragedy, or disappointment.

And sometimes the consequences of another person's decisions affect us deeply.

But within those realities, we still have meaningful choices.

We can choose how to respond.

We can seek wisdom.

We can change destructive habits.

We can ask forgiveness.

We can pursue reconciliation.

We can turn away from sin.

And we can respond to God's invitation to salvation through Jesus Christ.

You may not be able to choose everything that happens to you, but you can make choices that influence who you become.

Don't allow yesterday's disappointments to convince you that tomorrow cannot be different.

WHAT KIND OF FUTURE ARE YOU BUILDING?

Consider the legacy you're creating.

What will your children remember about you?

What will your grandchildren say about your example?

Will the people around you remember your generosity, compassion, integrity, and faith?

Or will they remember that you were always too busy to listen?

Some of the most meaningful things we leave behind cannot be measured in dollars.

A kind word.

A prayer.

A life of integrity.

A child taught to love God.

A stranger helped in a moment of desperation.

These things can influence lives long after we're gone.

I often think about my great-grandmother, Bertha Meriwether.

She could not have known every detail of my future.

But she prayed for me.

And her example of faith helped shape a life that would eventually include military service, preaching, writing, and missionary outreach across nations.

Sometimes the seeds we plant today become blessings for people we will never meet tomorrow.

PLAN FOR TOMORROW—BUT DON'T NEGLECT ETERNITY

There is wisdom in preparing for the years ahead.

But there is an even greater question.

Have you considered your eternal future?

Jesus said in John 14:6:

"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

You can prepare for many earthly possibilities.

But no financial plan, career achievement, or earthly possession can substitute for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

And that relationship is not something you must postpone until the end of your life.

You can begin walking with Him today.

Prepare for tomorrow. Live faithfully today. And entrust your eternal future to Jesus Christ.

🙏 TODAY'S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I do not know everything tomorrow will bring, but I know that I need Your wisdom and guidance. Help me plan responsibly, live courageously, and trust You when circumstances change. May my decisions today reflect faith, love, and eternal purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflection: What are you doing today that you hope will make a difference in someone's life tomorrow?

We would love to hear your thoughts.
