THE CLOCK WON’T STOP—BUT YOU CAN PRAY

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Troubles come.

Troubles go.

Some arrive without warning. Others linger far longer than we ever imagined they would. Some mornings we awaken feeling ready to face the world, while on other mornings just getting our feet on the floor feels like an accomplishment.

But through it all, one thing keeps moving.

Time.

The clock never asks whether we are ready.

There are 1,440 minutes in every day.

There are 86,400 seconds.

And every single one of them keeps moving forward.

Sometimes we wish the hands of the clock would slow down.

“Lord, give me just a little more time.”

At other times, we wish they would move faster.

“Lord, please get me through this day.”

But time changes its pace for no one.

Today, October 8, 2026—the 281st day of the year—we have been given another 24 hours. We cannot reclaim yesterday's minutes, and tomorrow's minutes have not yet been promised to us.

But today is here.

So before the telephone rings...

Before the emails arrive...

Before the bills, appointments, deadlines, responsibilities, problems, disappointments, and unexpected circumstances begin demanding our attention...

Let's pray.

START YOUR DAY TALKING TO GOD

I am a firm believer that when you begin your day with prayer, pray throughout your day, and end your day with prayer, something happens.

It doesn't mean trouble won't come.

It doesn't mean every problem will disappear.

It doesn't mean everyone will treat you kindly.

And it certainly doesn't mean everything will go according to your plans.

What changes is you.

Prayer gives you a different frame of mind.

Prayer gives you a different perspective.

Prayer reminds you that whatever walks through your door today did not catch God by surprise.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

“Pray without ceasing.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:17

That doesn't mean spending all 86,400 seconds of the day on our knees.

It means living with an open line of communication with God.

Morning: “Lord, lead me.”

During the day: “Lord, help me.”

When trouble comes: “Lord, give me wisdom.”

When something good happens: “Lord, thank You.”

When you're frustrated: “Lord, give me patience.”

When you're afraid: “Lord, remind me that You are here.”

Before going to sleep: “Lord, thank You for bringing me through another day.”

That's a life of prayer.

BEFORE TODAY GETS BUSY, LET'S PRAY

Father,

Thank You for allowing us to see another day.

Thank You for the gift of these 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds that lie before us.

We don't know everything this day will bring, but we know You are already there.

Go before us.

Order our steps.

Guard our hearts.

Give us wisdom before we speak, patience before we react, courage when we are afraid, strength when we become weary, and compassion for the people You place in our path.

For the person reading this who awakened carrying a burden nobody else knows about, remind them that they do not carry it unseen before You.

For the family facing uncertainty, bring peace.

For the person facing financial difficulty, provide direction and provision.

For the one awaiting an answer, give patience.

For the discouraged, restore hope.

For the weary, renew strength.

For the sick, bring comfort and healing according to Your will.

For the person who doesn't know how they're going to make it through today, whisper into their spirit:

“Take the next step. I am with you.”

And Lord, somewhere during these 86,400 seconds, place someone in our path whom we can encourage, help, pray for, or tell about Jesus Christ.

Don't allow us to become so busy living our own lives that we miss the person You sent across our path.

We place this day into Your hands.

From our first prayer this morning until our final “Thank You, Lord” tonight, help us walk with You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

THE CLOCK IS ALREADY MOVING

By the time you finish reading this post, several more minutes will have disappeared forever.

You cannot get them back.

Neither can I.

So let's make them count.

Pray before you worry.

Pray before you react.

Pray before you decide.

Pray when you're hurting.

Pray when you're celebrating.

Pray when you understand.

And pray when absolutely nothing makes sense.

Troubles will come.

Troubles will go.

The clock will continue ticking.

But through every minute and every second, there is one wonderful truth we can carry with us:

God is still God.

So on this 281st day of 2026, let's begin the day the right way.

With prayer.

And when tonight arrives, let's end it the same way.
