THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TROUGH YOU DRINK OUT OF
DON’T JUST LISTEN—EXAMINE WHAT YOU HEAR! 🙌
A horse may drink from whatever trough is placed before it. But when it comes to our spiritual lives, we must be far more discerning about the source of what we receive. That down-to-earth picture gives this new mini-sermon its unforgettable title.
In “The Importance of the Trough You Drink Out Of,” Pastor James Langston asks believers to think carefully about the teaching they hear, the church fellowship they join, and the place the Scriptures hold in their decisions.

Measure Teaching by the Word of God
The message expresses the ministry's full-Gospel convictions: Jesus saves, heals, forgives, baptizes in the Holy Spirit, and will return. It also urges listeners not to accept every claim simply because it comes from a pulpit or carries a religious label.
The Bereans were commended for receiving the message eagerly while examining the Scriptures to see whether what they heard was true. That is a useful model for Christians of every age: listen with humility, study diligently, ask thoughtful questions, and seek a church that faithfully teaches Christ.
“They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
— Acts 17:11 (KJV)
Words Worth Remembering
Discernment Is Not Cynicism
Examining doctrine is not an excuse to attack fellow believers or to assume that every church must look exactly alike. It is an invitation to take spiritual formation seriously, to remain rooted in Scripture, and to seek the Lord's guidance about where to worship and grow.
Hear the sermon, open your Bible, and consider what is shaping your understanding of Jesus Christ. Then share it with someone seeking a church home or wanting to grow in biblical discernment.
