BEFORE YOU FINISH THIS DAY—STOP AND LOOK UP

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

It is noon.

Half the day is already behind you.

Maybe this morning went exactly as planned. Maybe nothing went according to plan.

Perhaps you received good news. Perhaps a telephone call, email, bill, conversation, or unexpected problem changed the direction of your entire day.

Before you rush into the afternoon, stop for a moment.

Not for an hour.

Not even for thirty minutes.

Just long enough to remember:

God is still God.

We spend so much of our lives moving from one responsibility to another that we can go an entire day without stopping to acknowledge the One who gave us the day.

So right here, right now, take a spiritual inventory.

Are you carrying something God never told you to carry?

Are you worrying about something you cannot control?

Are you frustrated because something did not happen when or how you expected?

Are you trying to solve tomorrow's problems with today's strength?

Then perhaps these next few minutes are exactly what you need.

Be still.

You don't have to understand everything.

You don't have to have every answer.

You don't have to know how everything will turn out.

You simply need to remember Who is still sitting on the throne.

A Noon Prayer

Father, thank You for bringing me this far today.

Forgive me for the moments when I became so busy with life that I forgot to acknowledge You.

Calm my mind.

Strengthen my heart.

Order my steps.

Help me handle the remainder of this day with wisdom, patience, compassion, courage, and faith.

Whatever I cannot change, help me trust You with it.

Whatever I must face, give me strength to face it.

Whatever opportunity You place before me, help me recognize it.

And before this day ends, let my life somehow point someone toward Jesus Christ.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

You still have half a day remaining.

Don't waste it worrying about what happened this morning.

There is still time to pray.

Still time to encourage someone.

Still time to forgive.

Still time to make something right.

Still time to tell somebody about Jesus.

Still time for God to surprise you.

The day isn't over yet.
