🛡️ BEFORE YOU FACE THE DAY, PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD!
Tuesday, October 13, 2026 | Daily Devotion
From Words of Encouragement, Fourth Edition — By James Langston
Scripture Focus: Ephesians 6:10–18
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” — Ephesians 6:11 (KJV)
GOOD MORNING! ARE YOU DRESSED FOR THE BATTLE?
Before you reach for your morning coffee, check your messages, turn on the television, or head out the door, I have a question for you:
Did you remember to put on your armor this morning?
I'm not talking about the clothes hanging in your closet, your work uniform, or the shoes sitting beside your bed. I'm talking about something far more important—the spiritual armor that God has provided for every Believer in Jesus Christ!
You see, the moment you opened your eyes this morning, you entered another day of spiritual warfare. And whether you recognize it or not, the enemy would love nothing more than to steal your peace, discourage your heart, weaken your faith, and distract you from God's purpose for your life.
But here's the GOOD NEWS!
You don't have to face today's battles defenseless, defeated, or afraid!
God has already provided everything you need to stand firm.
⚔️ THE BATTLE IS REAL—BUT SO IS YOUR VICTORY!
In Ephesians 6:10, the apostle Paul begins with a powerful command:
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Notice something important. Paul didn't say to be strong in your education, your financial resources, your connections, your abilities, or even your determination.
He said, BE STRONG IN THE LORD!
Why?
Because there are some battles that human strength simply cannot win.
You cannot outthink the devil. You cannot defeat spiritual darkness through positive thinking alone. And you certainly cannot live a victorious Christian life through willpower and self-effort.
Our victory rests in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished at the Cross of Calvary!
The armor of God is not a collection of religious rituals or spiritual good-luck charms. It represents the protection, strength, and spiritual resources that God makes available to those who place their faith in His Son.
And we must remember something else: We are not fighting for victory as though Christ has not already conquered. We stand in the victory He has already won!
🛡️ SIX PIECES OF ARMOR—ONE MIGHTY GOD!
Paul identifies six essential pieces of spiritual armor in Ephesians 6:14–17.
1. THE BELT OF TRUTH — Know What You Believe!
In a world overflowing with misinformation, confusion, deception, and competing voices, God's Word remains our foundation.
Don't allow your feelings, circumstances, or popular opinion to determine what is true. Let the Word of God settle the matter!
2. THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS — Guard Your Heart!
Our standing before God rests upon the righteousness of Jesus Christ, not our own goodness.
As we walk in fellowship with Him, His righteousness shapes our attitudes, decisions, and conduct.
Don't allow yesterday's failures to convince you that God's grace cannot sustain you today.
3. THE SHOES OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE — Walk With Purpose!
Everywhere you go today, you have an opportunity to demonstrate the love and peace of Jesus Christ.
At home. At work. At school. In the grocery store. Even in the middle of a difficult conversation.
Someone may desperately need the encouragement that God has placed in your heart.
4. THE SHIELD OF FAITH — Don't Believe Every Arrow!
Fear, doubt, discouragement, temptation, and condemnation are among the fiery darts the enemy uses against Believers.
But faith reminds us that God's promises are greater than our circumstances.
When the enemy whispers, “You're not going to make it,” faith declares, “My God shall supply all your need!” (Philippians 4:19).
5. THE HELMET OF SALVATION — Protect Your Mind!
One of the fiercest battlegrounds in the Christian life is the mind.
The enemy wants you to question your salvation, doubt God's love, and believe that your future is hopeless.
But your salvation rests in Jesus Christ!
Fill your thoughts with His promises, remember His faithfulness, and refuse to allow fear to become the controlling voice in your life.
6. THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT — USE YOUR BIBLE!
The Word of God is our offensive weapon.
When Jesus faced temptation in the wilderness, He answered with Scripture: “It is written.”
Believer, don't leave your Bible unopened while wondering why your spiritual strength is fading!
Read it. Study it. Believe it. Apply it.
And above all, keep your faith firmly anchored in the One to whom the Scriptures point—Jesus Christ!
🙏 DON'T FORGET THE POWER OF PRAYER!
Paul doesn't stop with the armor.
In Ephesians 6:18, he reminds Believers to pray always, with perseverance and supplication.
Prayer isn't an emergency telephone number that we call only when everything goes wrong.
Prayer is our daily communication with our Heavenly Father!
You don't have to use fancy words. You don't have to pray for hours to impress God. And you don't need to wait until you feel especially spiritual.
Simply come before Him with a sincere heart.
Tell Him about your concerns. Thank Him for His goodness. Ask for His wisdom. Pray for your family, your community, your nation, and those who have yet to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
And when you've finished praying, get up and face the day knowing that you are not walking alone!
🌅 OCTOBER 13: A BRAND-NEW DAY, A BRAND-NEW OPPORTUNITY!
Yesterday is gone.
Whatever happened on Monday—whether it brought unexpected blessings, disappointments, frustrations, or unanswered questions—it doesn't have to dictate how you face Tuesday.
Perhaps you woke up this morning already worried about something waiting for you.
Maybe it's a doctor's appointment. An overdue bill. A strained relationship. A difficult decision. Or a situation that seems to have no solution.
I want to encourage you today:
Don't allow the size of your battle to make you forget the greatness of your God!
The same Lord who sustained you yesterday is able to sustain you today.
You may not know what this Tuesday holds, but you can trust the One who holds your future.
And remember, standing firm doesn't always mean that your circumstances change immediately. Sometimes it means that, even while the storm continues, your faith remains anchored in Jesus Christ.
❤️ TODAY'S PERSONAL CHALLENGE
Before this day gets away from you, take a few moments to examine your spiritual readiness.
Are you walking in truth? Is your heart guarded by faith in Christ? Are you allowing God's peace to direct your steps? Are you feeding your mind with His Word? Have you spent time talking with your Heavenly Father?
And here's one more question:
Who can you encourage today?
There are people all around us fighting battles that nobody else knows about. Your phone call, your prayer, your kindness, or your testimony might be exactly what someone needs to keep moving forward.
Don't merely put on the armor to stand firm yourself.
Be willing to help strengthen someone else who is struggling to stand!
🙏 TODAY'S MORNING PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of another day. Thank You for watching over us through the night and allowing us to open our eyes to another opportunity to serve You.
Lord, as we begin this Tuesday, help us to put on the whole armor of God. Gird us with Your truth. Guard our hearts with the righteousness of Christ. Establish our feet in the Gospel of peace. Strengthen our shield of faith. Protect our minds with the assurance of salvation, and teach us to use Your Word faithfully.
For those facing sickness, bring comfort and healing according to Your will. For those struggling financially, open doors of provision and wisdom. For those carrying burdens too heavy to explain, remind them that they are never beyond Your loving care.
Protect our families. Strengthen our churches. Encourage our missionaries. Bless those serving in difficult places around the world.
And above all, Lord, help us to keep our eyes on Jesus Christ and what He accomplished at the Cross.
May our words, our actions, and our attitudes bring glory to Your Name throughout this day.
In the mighty Name of Jesus Christ, we pray.
AMEN AND AMEN!
