🔥 WHERE HAVE ALL THE PREACHERS GONE?
When the Pulpit Becomes a Platform—and the Gospel Becomes a Motivational Speech
“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of PREACHING to save them that believe.” — 1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV)
Something has happened to the pulpit.
Not everywhere.
Thank God there are still pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and preachers who open the Bible, proclaim Jesus Christ, preach against sin, call people to repentance, and refuse to dilute the Gospel.
But across much of our land, something has changed.
We have more Christian conferences.
More podcasts.
More livestreams.
More social-media personalities.
More bestselling books.
More sophisticated church buildings.
More technology.
More cameras.
More lights.
More platforms.
And yet we must ask a sobering question:
WHERE IS THE PREACHING?
Not motivational speaking.
Not five principles for becoming a better version of yourself.
Not forty minutes of telling people how wonderful they are.
Not entertainment with a Scripture attached to it.
Not therapy masquerading as theology.
I mean PREACHING.
Biblical preaching.
Christ-centered preaching.
Holy Ghost-anointed preaching.
Preaching that declares:
You have sinned.
Jesus Christ died for sinners.
He was buried.
He rose again.
Repent.
Believe the Gospel.
Be saved.
Follow Jesus.
That kind of preaching.
🎤 WHEN DID THE PREACHER BECOME A LIFE COACH?
Somewhere along the way, portions of the modern church decided that “preacher” wasn't attractive enough.
So we acquired new descriptions.
Influencer.
Communicator.
Life coach.
Motivational speaker.
Counselor.
Thought leader.
Content creator.
There is nothing inherently wrong with encouraging, counseling, teaching, mentoring, or helping people navigate life's difficulties.
The Bible itself does all of those things.
People are hurting.
Marriages are struggling.
Families are fractured.
People battle loneliness, grief, fear, financial pressure, disappointment, and exhaustion.
They need encouragement.
But encouragement must never replace evangelism.
Counseling must never replace conviction.
Motivation must never replace repentance.
And inspiration must never replace salvation.
A preacher may encourage.
A preacher may counsel.
A preacher may comfort.
A preacher may teach.
But somewhere along the way—
THE PREACHER MUST PREACH.
✝️ GOD CHOSE PREACHING
Paul wrote something remarkable:
“...it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” — 1 Corinthians 1:21
Notice whose idea preaching was.
God's.
The world may consider preaching foolish.
Modern culture may consider it outdated.
Some churches may think people will no longer tolerate it.
Marketing experts may tell us to soften the message.
But God chose preaching.
And if preaching is God's way—
IT HAD BETTER BE OUR WAY.
We do not possess the authority to redesign God's method because society changed.
📖 “PREACH THE WORD”
Paul's instruction to Timothy was not complicated:
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” — 2 Timothy 4:2
Notice the balance.
Reprove.
Rebuke.
Exhort.
There is correction.
There is warning.
And there is encouragement.
Biblical preaching contains all three.
The problem arises when we remove the first two because the third receives better applause.
Everybody likes:
“God is going to bless you.”
Fewer people want to hear:
“Repent.”
Everybody enjoys:
“Your breakthrough is coming.”
Fewer want:
“Take up your cross.”
Everybody appreciates:
“God loves you.”
And He absolutely does.
But biblical love also tells us:
Sin destroys.
Judgment is real.
Eternity matters.
Jesus Christ is the only Savior.
🚨 WE CANNOT SAVE PEOPLE FROM A GOSPEL WE ARE AFRAID TO PREACH
Think about this.
If we never preach about sin, why would someone believe they need forgiveness?
If we never preach judgment, why would eternity concern them?
If we never preach repentance, what are they supposed to turn from?
If we never preach the Cross, where will they find salvation?
If we never preach the resurrection, where is their hope?
And if we never preach Jesus Christ—
WHAT EXACTLY ARE WE PREACHING?
Paul declared:
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” — 1 Corinthians 2:2
That isn't complicated.
CHRIST.
CRUCIFIED.
RISEN.
COMING AGAIN.
❤️ BUT PEOPLE ARE HURTING!
Yes.
They are.
And we should care deeply.
The exhausted need encouragement.
The grieving need comfort.
The brokenhearted need compassion.
The confused need guidance.
The struggling need somebody to walk beside them.
Jesus Himself said:
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
But notice what Jesus said:
“COME UNTO ME.”
He didn't merely offer people techniques for carrying their burdens more efficiently.
He offered Himself.
There is nothing compassionate about making someone feel better temporarily while leaving them spiritually lost.
Give them encouragement.
Absolutely.
Help them.
Absolutely.
Love them.
Absolutely.
Feed them.
Counsel them.
Pray with them.
Walk with them.
But somewhere in that relationship—
GIVE THEM JESUS.
⚠️ THE DANGER OF A GOSPEL THAT NEVER OFFENDS
Paul warned Timothy that a time would come when people would not endure sound doctrine:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” — 2 Timothy 4:3
People naturally enjoy hearing what makes them comfortable.
That temptation isn't new.
But the preacher isn't called to determine the message by applause.
We don't conduct an opinion poll before deciding whether sin is still sin.
We don't consult social media to determine whether repentance remains necessary.
We don't rewrite Scripture because biblical truth became unpopular.
THE PREACHER DOES NOT OWN THE MESSAGE.
We are messengers.
God owns the message.
Our responsibility is to deliver it faithfully.
🔥 PREACHERS, GET BACK TO PREACHING
This isn't a call for angry preaching.
It isn't permission to humiliate people.
It isn't an excuse for arrogance, cruelty, manipulation, or spiritual abuse.
A preacher can scream for an hour and still never preach the Gospel.
Biblical preaching must be saturated with truth AND love.
But love cannot mean silence.
Imagine a doctor discovering a dangerous disease and saying:
"I don't want to upset my patient, so I'll just tell him something positive."
We would call that malpractice.
Why?
Because sometimes love must deliver difficult news in order to offer the remedy.
The Gospel tells humanity difficult news:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
But then comes the glorious news:
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
That's preaching.
The disease AND the cure.
Sin AND grace.
Judgment AND mercy.
Repentance AND forgiveness.
The Cross AND the empty tomb.
⛪ CHURCH, DON'T BE ASHAMED OF THE PULPIT
We don't need to return to a particular decade.
We don't need every preacher to sound alike.
Methods can change.
Technology can change.
Music can change.
Buildings can change.
The Gospel can be preached beneath a tent, inside a cathedral, from a storefront, through a microphone, over the internet, under a tree, or standing in somebody's living room.
BUT THE MESSAGE MUST NOT CHANGE.
Paul said:
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth...” — Romans 1:16
The power isn't in our personality.
It isn't in our branding.
It isn't in our follower count.
It isn't in our stage lighting.
It isn't in our ability to make everybody feel good.
THE POWER IS IN THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.
🙏 A WORD TO THOSE WHO STAND BEHIND THE PULPIT
Preacher—
Somebody sitting before you may have one more opportunity to hear the Gospel.
You don't know what tomorrow holds.
Neither do they.
So preach like eternity matters.
Preach Jesus.
Preach the Cross.
Preach repentance.
Preach forgiveness.
Preach holiness.
Preach grace.
Preach Heaven.
Preach judgment.
Preach the resurrection.
Preach salvation.
Preach the whole counsel of God.
Comfort the brokenhearted.
Strengthen the weary.
Encourage the discouraged.
But when everything is said and done—
PREACH CHRIST.
Because if preaching was God's chosen way then—
PREACHING HAD BETTER STILL BE OUR WAY.
🙏 LET US PRAY
Father, bring biblical preaching back to our pulpits.
Give Your ministers courage to proclaim Your Word without compromise and compassion to proclaim it without cruelty.
Keep us from replacing conviction with popularity, truth with entertainment, and the Gospel with motivational speeches.
Give us preachers who love people enough to tell them the truth.
Give us churches hungry for Your Word.
Give us Christians unashamed of Jesus Christ.
And when we preach, teach, write, speak, minister, or witness, let the message remain unmistakable:
JESUS CHRIST SAVES.
Help us reach one more soul before it is eternally too late.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
🔥 PREACH THE WORD.
Not what is popular.
Not merely what is comfortable.
Not simply what gets applause.
PREACH THE WORD.
Because the weary need more than motivation.
The broken need more than inspiration.
And the lost need more than a life coach.
THEY NEED JESUS CHRIST.
“...it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” — 1 Corinthians 1:21
