WHEN YOU’RE OUTNUMBERED 10,000 TO ONE—STAND
You May Feel Alone. But You Are Not Standing Alone.
There are moments in this walk of faith when it seems as though everybody—and everything—is against you.
You look to the left. Opposition.
You look to the right. Opposition.
You look behind you. Trouble.
You look ahead. Uncertainty.
And suddenly it feels as though you are standing 10,000 to one.
Maybe people have misunderstood you.
Maybe friends have walked away.
Maybe doors have closed.
Maybe the enemy has whispered, “Look around. Nobody is coming. You're all alone.”
But Child of God, never judge your spiritual position by what your natural eyes can see.
The Bible asks a question that every Believer should remember when the odds appear impossible:
“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
—Romans 8:31
Notice that Scripture does not say nobody will try to come against you.
They may.
Opposition may come.
Trials may come.
Accusations may come.
Disappointments may come.
Spiritual warfare may come.
But there is an enormous difference between something being against you and something being able to defeat you.
YOU ARE IN HIS HAND
Jesus gave us another powerful assurance:
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
—John 10:28
Then He continued:
“My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one.”
—John 10:29–30
Think about that.
When you belong to Jesus Christ, you are not simply trying to hold onto God.
God is holding onto you.
Your strength may weaken.
Your emotions may fluctuate.
Your confidence may sometimes shake.
But His hand has not moved.
There are times when faith is not shouting.
Sometimes faith is simply standing.
HAVING DONE ALL—STAND
Paul wrote:
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
—Ephesians 6:13
Sometimes you have prayed all you know to pray.
You have believed.
You have obeyed.
You have waited.
You have cried.
You have searched the Scriptures.
You have asked God for direction.
And yet the battle remains.
What do you do then?
STAND.
Don't surrender your faith because circumstances haven't changed yet.
Don't abandon God's promises because the battle lasted longer than you expected.
Don't remove your armor because the enemy didn't leave after the first prayer.
And don't confuse God's silence with God's absence.
Having done all—to stand.
Stand when you understand.
Stand when you don't.
Stand when people support you.
Stand when they leave you.
Stand when the answer comes quickly.
Stand when heaven seems quiet.
Stand because your confidence was never supposed to be in the size of your army.
Your confidence is in the God who stands with you.
NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST YOU
Isaiah 54:17 declares:
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper...”
Read those words carefully.
The Bible does not say the weapon will never be formed.
It says it will not prosper.
There may be a weapon.
There may be opposition.
There may be accusations.
There may be people who misunderstand your calling, question your motives, or oppose what God has placed in your heart.
But the final word does not belong to the weapon.
The final word belongs to God.
THEY THAT BE WITH US ARE MORE
There is another Scripture that has become especially meaningful to me.
I shared it with my wife, Cecilia, as we walk this path of faith together:
“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”
—2 Kings 6:16
What a word!
Elisha and his servant appeared surrounded.
The enemy had horses.
Chariots.
Soldiers.
Numbers.
From the servant's perspective, the situation looked hopeless.
But Elisha could see something his servant could not yet see.
The servant saw the enemy surrounding them.
Elisha knew Heaven surrounded the enemy.
Then Elisha prayed that God would open the young man's eyes.
And suddenly he saw what had been there all along—the mountain was filled with horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.
The circumstances had not changed.
His vision had.
Perhaps that is the prayer some of us need today:
“Lord, open my eyes.”
Open my eyes when fear tells me I'm alone.
Open my eyes when circumstances tell me we're outnumbered.
Open my eyes when the bank account says impossible.
Open my eyes when the doctor's report frightens me.
Open my eyes when opposition grows.
Open my eyes when the road You've called me to walk becomes difficult.
Open my eyes so that I stop counting those standing against me and remember Who is standing with me.
10,000 TO ONE?
So you feel outnumbered 10,000 to one?
Then remember something:
God does not need 10,001 people to give you the advantage.
If God is for you, you already have what numbers cannot measure.
David didn't need an army to defeat Goliath.
Gideon didn't need overwhelming numbers.
Moses didn't need a navy to cross the Red Sea.
Elisha didn't need to see the heavenly army for that army to already be there.
And you do not have to see everything God is doing behind the scenes to trust that He is still God.
So put on the whole armour of God.
Pray.
Believe.
Obey.
Keep walking.
Keep trusting.
And when you've done everything you know to do—
STAND.
Because you may look alone to the world.
You may feel outnumbered.
The opposition may appear overwhelming.
But never forget:
“If God be for us, who can be against us?”
“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.”
And when fear whispers, “Look how many are against you,” answer it with the Word of God:
“FEAR NOT: FOR THEY THAT BE WITH US ARE MORE THAN THEY THAT BE WITH THEM.”
Cecilia and I are walking this path of faith together.
We don't know everything tomorrow holds.
We don't have every answer.
We cannot see around every corner.
But we know the One who called us.
And sometimes that has to be enough.
We will pray.
We will trust.
We will obey.
We will stand.
And we will keep walking by faith.
A PRAYER FOR THE PERSON WHO FEELS ALONE
Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen the person reading these words who feels surrounded, overwhelmed, or outnumbered.
Open their spiritual eyes.
Remind them that You have not abandoned them.
Help them put on the whole armour of God and stand when everything around them tells them to quit.
Replace fear with faith.
Replace discouragement with courage.
Replace confusion with peace.
And when they cannot see what You are doing, help them trust Your heart, Your Word, and Your promises.
Thank You that no weapon formed against Your people will have the final word.
Thank You that Your sheep are safe in Your hand.
And thank You that when it appears we are standing alone, Heaven's resources cannot be counted by human eyes.
If You are for us, who can be against us?
In Jesus Christ's Name,
Amen.
DON'T QUIT. DON'T RUN. STAND.
You may be outnumbered in the natural.
But you are never outnumbered when God is on your side.
HELP US HELP THEM—ONE SOUL AT A TIME.
