QUESTION OF THE WEEK — SEPTEMBER 11, 2026
❓ DOES THE BIBLE MENTION AMERICA IN PROPHECY?
Keturah (17) from Smithville, Tennessee, writes:
"Pastor James, I have a question. I love my country, but we've made a lot of mistakes at home and abroad over the past 50 years, especially in our treatment of Israel. As we creep toward the midnight hour and the Rapture, I can't help but ask: Where does America stand on God's prophetic time clock? Will there even be an America in 50 years? I hope you can help me with this one."
Keturah, thank you for asking such an important question—and especially for wanting to examine it through the Word of God.
Let me begin with the clearest answer:
The Bible does not explicitly name the United States of America in end-times prophecy.
That may disappoint those looking for a definite prophetic identification of America, but we must be careful not to make Scripture say something it does not say.
Over the years, some Bible teachers have attempted to identify America with various prophetic symbols and passages. Among those sometimes discussed are the "young lions" of Ezekiel 38:13, the eagle imagery of Revelation 12:14, and other passages involving end-times nations.
Those interpretations are interesting to study, but none gives us sufficient biblical grounds to declare:
"This is unquestionably the United States of America."
Where Scripture is clear, we should be clear.
Where Scripture is silent, we should be careful.
WHAT ABOUT AMERICA AND GOD'S PROPHETIC CLOCK?
Throughout history, mighty nations and empires have risen, dominated their age, and eventually declined.
Egypt.
Assyria.
Babylon.
Medo-Persia.
Greece.
Rome.
At different moments, each appeared enormously powerful.
Yet none remained the dominant world power forever.
That historical reality should teach America something important:
Earthly power is temporary.
America has exercised extraordinary political, economic, technological, cultural, and military influence throughout the modern world.
But no nation—not even the United States—is guaranteed perpetual greatness.
Daniel reminds us:
"Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings..." — Daniel 2:20–21
God remains sovereign over history.
WHY IS AMERICA NOT CLEARLY VISIBLE IN END-TIMES PROPHECY?
That question has generated considerable discussion among students of Bible prophecy.
If the United States remains a major world power when certain end-times events unfold, why does Scripture not clearly identify it?
There are several possibilities.
America could remain powerful but simply not occupy the central role in those particular prophecies.
America's global influence could diminish.
The nation could experience economic, political, military, social, or spiritual upheaval.
International alliances could change.
Or events could unfold in ways that we presently cannot foresee.
But notice the words:
Could. Might. Possibly.
We must resist turning speculation into revelation.
The Bible does not give us permission to fill its silence with certainty.
WHAT ABOUT ISRAEL?
Keturah, you specifically mentioned America's treatment of Israel.
That deserves attention.
Scripture makes God's historic covenant dealings with Israel extraordinarily significant, and Romans 9–11 makes clear that Israel remains important within God's redemptive purposes.
Christians should therefore take Israel seriously.
We should pray for peace.
We should oppose antisemitism.
We should recognize the Jewish people's historical connection to the land.
But we must also be careful about turning every diplomatic disagreement, administration, treaty, military decision, or foreign-policy dispute into an automatic fulfillment of prophecy.
Governments make decisions for political and strategic reasons. Those decisions can be wise or foolish, moral or immoral, just or unjust.
They should be evaluated carefully—and biblically.
But biblical prophecy should never become a shortcut that prevents careful discernment.
AMERICA'S GREATER DANGER MAY BE WITHIN
While we cannot point to a verse and confidently declare, "There is America in end-times prophecy," Scripture gives principles by which every nation can examine itself.
"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." — Proverbs 14:34
America should take those words seriously.
We see deep political division.
We see corruption and distrust.
We see families struggling.
We see violence.
We see confusion regarding morality and truth.
We see material prosperity existing alongside profound spiritual emptiness.
We see increasing biblical illiteracy.
And too often, we see people wanting God's blessings while rejecting God's authority.
But before Christians point fingers at Washington, Hollywood, universities, corporations, or society, judgment must begin closer to home.
What condition is the Church in?
Are we praying?
Are we preaching the Gospel?
Are we living what we profess?
Are we making disciples?
Are we standing for truth while demonstrating Christ's love?
Are we repenting of our own sins?
Are we depending upon the Holy Spirit?
America's greatest need is not simply another political movement.
America needs a spiritual awakening.
WILL AMERICA EXIST 50 YEARS FROM NOW?
Keturah, you asked a fascinating question:
"Will there even be an America in 50 years?"
I cannot answer that.
Neither can anyone else with biblical certainty.
If the Lord tarries, America may remain a powerful nation 50 years from now.
It may be dramatically different.
Its influence may increase.
Its influence may decrease.
Political boundaries, alliances, governments, economies, and cultures can change enormously within half a century.
But I can tell you something with absolute confidence:
God will still be God.
Jesus Christ will still be Lord.
The Word of God will still be true.
The Gospel will still be the power of God unto salvation.
And God's ultimate purposes will not have been defeated.
That is where our confidence belongs.
DON'T WATCH THE CLOCK SO CLOSELY THAT YOU FORGET THE COMMISSION
Students of prophecy sometimes become so focused on identifying every nation, leader, war, treaty, earthquake, and headline that they forget something Jesus has already clearly commanded us to do.
"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." — Mark 16:15
Yes, study prophecy.
Yes, watch world events.
Yes, understand the times.
Yes, pray for America.
Yes, pray for Israel.
Yes, pray for the nations.
But while we are looking toward Heaven awaiting Christ's return, there remains a world around us that desperately needs Jesus.
Prophecy should produce readiness—not panic.
Prophecy should produce holiness—not sensationalism.
Prophecy should produce evangelism—not endless speculation.
SO, WHERE DOES AMERICA STAND?
Perhaps the better question is not:
"Where is America hidden in Bible prophecy?"
Perhaps it is:
"Where does America stand with God?"
And then the question becomes even more personal:
"Where do WE stand with God?"
Nations are composed of people.
Homes are composed of people.
Churches are composed of people.
Revival begins with people.
Repentance begins with people.
And sometimes national transformation begins when ordinary people humble themselves before an extraordinary God.
Whatever America's prophetic future may hold, our present responsibility is already clear:
Pray.
Repent.
Stand for truth.
Love our neighbors.
Preach Jesus Christ.
Make disciples.
Defend what is righteous.
Care for those who are hurting.
Pray for our leaders.
Pray for Israel.
Pray for the nations.
And remain ready for the return of Jesus Christ.
Keturah, at 17 years old, you are already asking questions that many people several times your age have never seriously considered.
Keep asking.
Keep studying.
But always remember this:
Don't build your theology around headlines. Build it upon the Word of God.
Headlines change.
Governments change.
Presidents change.
Nations change.
Theories change.
God's Word does not.
And whether America remains the world's greatest superpower, becomes a lesser power, or one day disappears from the pages of history, our ultimate citizenship and hope are found in Jesus Christ.
"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." — Philippians 3:20
So yes, Keturah—watch America.
Watch Israel.
Watch the Middle East.
Watch the nations.
But above all:
WATCH FOR JESUS.
