NO ONE GETS AWAY WITH ANYTHING
“Be Sure Your Sin Will Find You Out”
“…and be sure your sin will find you out.” — Numbers 32:23
We hear the expression all the time:
“They got away with murder.”
Someone cheated the system.
Someone lied and was never exposed.
Someone stole and was never caught.
Someone destroyed another person's life and seemingly walked away without consequences.
Someone committed a crime, but there wasn't enough evidence.
Someone abused their authority and remained powerful.
Someone lived dishonestly, prospered financially, and died surrounded by wealth.
And people shake their heads and say:
“They got away with it.”
No.
They didn't.
Let something be clearly understood:
NO ONE GETS AWAY WITH ANYTHING.
People may escape human justice.
They may fool a spouse.
They may deceive their family.
They may manipulate a congregation.
They may hide something from their employer.
They may convince a jury.
They may destroy evidence.
They may delete the messages.
They may erase the computer files.
They may take a secret to their grave.
But there is one place where nothing is lost, nothing is forgotten, and nothing is hidden.
Before Almighty God.
Numbers 32:23 gives us one of Scripture's most sobering warnings:
“…be sure your sin will find you out.”
Not maybe.
Not possibly.
Not if someone discovers it.
Be sure.
“WE RECORD EVERY SIN. NOTHING GETS BY US.”
Several years ago, I watched the Christian movie Hidden Secrets, produced by Rich Christiano.
There was a line in that movie that has remained with me through the years:
“We record every sin. Nothing gets by us.”
Think about those words.
Nothing gets by God.
We sometimes behave as though something done secretly somehow disappears.
Nobody saw it.
Nobody heard it.
Nobody knows.
Therefore, somehow, we convince ourselves:
It doesn't exist.
But Scripture says differently.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 declares:
“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”
Every secret thing.
That should make every one of us stop and think.
GOD DOESN'T NEED YOUR INTERNET HISTORY
Today we live in a world where almost everything leaves a trail.
Phones record locations.
Websites retain histories.
Cameras capture movements.
Financial transactions create records.
Messages can be recovered.
Databases remember things people have forgotten.
But God doesn't need any of them.
He doesn't need surveillance cameras.
He doesn't need witnesses.
He doesn't need fingerprints.
He doesn't need DNA.
He doesn't need your browser history.
He doesn't need someone to testify against you.
He was already there.
Hebrews 4:13 says:
“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”
That includes the things everybody knows.
And it includes the things nobody knows.
THE SECRET SIN ISN'T SECRET
David understood this.
After his sin involving Bathsheba and Uriah, David attempted to conceal what he had done.
One decision led to another.
Lust.
Adultery.
Deception.
Manipulation.
And ultimately, Uriah's death.
From a human perspective, David might have believed the situation had been handled.
Then God sent Nathan.
Nathan confronted the king.
And David eventually heard those devastating words:
“Thou art the man.” — 2 Samuel 12:7
David had hidden it from people.
He had never hidden it from God.
That is the danger of secret sin.
The longer we conceal it, the easier it becomes to believe the concealment is working.
But silence from Heaven should never be mistaken for approval.
GOD'S DELAY IS NOT GOD'S IGNORANCE
This is where many people become confused.
"If God knows, why hasn't He done anything?"
Because judgment isn't always immediate.
Ecclesiastes 8:11 explains:
“Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
In other words, because consequences don't always arrive immediately, people begin believing consequences aren't coming.
That is a terrible mistake.
A farmer doesn't plant seed Monday morning and harvest Monday afternoon.
There is time between sowing and reaping.
But Galatians 6:7 warns:
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
The harvest may be delayed.
But the seed has not disappeared.
“BUT PASTOR, THEY DIED AND NEVER PAID FOR IT.”
Maybe.
At least from what you could see.
There are people who committed terrible crimes and were never arrested.
There are dictators who died in comfortable beds.
There are corrupt people who accumulated fortunes.
There are abusers whose victims never received justice during this lifetime.
There are criminals whose cases remain unsolved.
And there are people whose secrets were buried with them.
Human justice sometimes fails.
God's justice does not.
Hebrews 9:27 says:
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”
Death isn't an escape hatch.
The grave doesn't destroy accountability.
Nobody arrives before God and says:
“You can't prove it.”
God doesn't need to prove what He already knows.
BUT HERE IS WHERE THE GOSPEL CHANGES EVERYTHING
If we stopped here, this would be an incredibly frightening message.
Every sin recorded.
Every secret known.
Every deed accountable.
Every person guilty.
But thank God—
THERE IS A CROSS.
This is where Christianity becomes unlike anything humanity could have invented.
God knows exactly what we have done.
And yet He loves us.
God knows every sin.
And yet He sent His Son.
God knows every secret.
And yet Jesus Christ went to Calvary.
The answer to our sin isn't better hiding.
It isn't better excuses.
It isn't comparing ourselves with somebody worse.
The answer is Jesus Christ.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE RECORD?
This is where the Blood of Jesus Christ becomes so precious.
The sin that belongs to us must be answered for.
But Jesus Christ took the judgment for sin upon Himself at Calvary.
Peter writes:
“Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree…” — 1 Peter 2:24
Think about that.
Our sins.
Jesus wasn't dying for His wrongdoing.
He had none.
He was dying for ours.
The innocent for the guilty.
The righteous for the unrighteous.
The spotless Lamb of God for sinners like you and me.
UNDER THE BLOOD
There is an expression Christians have used for generations:
“It's under the Blood.”
Those aren't merely comforting religious words.
They point toward one of the greatest truths of the Gospel.
When we come to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith, trusting Him as Lord and Saviour, our hope rests not in our goodness but in His finished work at Calvary.
First John 1:7 declares:
“…the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
ALL SIN.
Not just respectable sins.
Not just little sins.
Not just the sins nobody knows about.
All sin.
That does not mean earthly consequences magically disappear.
It does not mean victims suddenly weren't harmed.
It does not mean restitution is unnecessary.
It does not mean criminal conduct should escape legitimate human justice.
It means something infinitely greater:
The repentant believer's eternal hope rests in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice—not in pretending the sin never happened.
YOU CANNOT HIDE WHAT JESUS IS WILLING TO FORGIVE
Someone reading this may have something buried deep inside.
Something from ten years ago.
Twenty years ago.
Fifty years ago.
Nobody knows.
And you've spent years hoping nobody ever discovers it.
But here's my question:
Why are you trying to hide from God something He already knows?
Bring it to Jesus.
Confess it.
Repent.
Where restitution or confession to someone harmed is appropriate, make things right.
Where criminal accountability is involved, salvation should never be used as an excuse to evade legitimate justice.
But spiritually—
stop running.
First John 1:9 promises:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
You don't need a better hiding place.
You need the Cross.
DON'T CONFUSE SALVATION WITH A LICENSE TO SIN
Someone may misunderstand this message and think:
"Then I'll accept Jesus and do whatever I want."
No.
Grace isn't permission to continue deliberately rebelling against God.
Paul confronted that thinking directly:
“Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.” — Romans 6:1–2
The person who truly encounters Jesus Christ doesn't say:
"How much sin can I get away with?"
The heart begins asking:
“Lord, how can I live for You?”
THERE ARE ONLY TWO PLACES FOR YOUR SIN
Ultimately, there are only two places your sin can remain.
On you.
Or—
under the Blood of Jesus Christ.
You can carry it.
Defend it.
Hide it.
Excuse it.
Rename it.
Blame somebody else for it.
Pretend it didn't happen.
Take it to your grave.
But you cannot erase it yourself.
Or you can come to Jesus Christ.
Repent.
Believe.
Surrender.
And receive the salvation He purchased at Calvary.
NO ONE GETS AWAY WITH ANYTHING—BUT ANYONE CAN BE FORGIVEN
Now we arrive at the heart of this entire message.
Yes:
No one gets away with anything.
But don't stop there.
Because the Gospel gives us something far greater:
NO ONE IS BEYOND THE REACH OF JESUS CHRIST.
That murderer can be saved.
That adulterer can be saved.
That liar can be saved.
That thief can be saved.
That addict can be saved.
That corrupt leader can be saved.
That person carrying a secret nobody else knows can be saved.
You can be saved.
Paul once persecuted Christians.
David committed terrible sins.
Peter denied Jesus.
The thief hanging beside Christ had reached the final hours of his earthly life.
And still—
there was mercy.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Forget everybody else for a moment.
This isn't about the politician on television.
It isn't about the criminal in the headlines.
It isn't about the pastor whose scandal became public.
It isn't about your neighbor.
It isn't about somebody who hurt you thirty years ago.
This question is between you and God.
What about your sin?
Romans 3:23 says:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
That includes me.
That includes you.
That includes everybody.
The question isn't whether you have sinned.
The question is what you have done with your sin.
Is it still yours?
Or have you brought it to Jesus?
TODAY CAN BE THE DAY THE RUNNING STOPS
You may fool people.
You may fool family.
You may fool church members.
You might even become very good at fooling yourself.
But you will never fool God.
And here's the beautiful part:
You don't have to.
He already knows.
And He still sent Jesus.
You don't need to clean yourself up before coming.
Come.
You don't need to erase your past.
You can't.
Come to the One who can forgive it.
You don't need another hiding place.
Come to the Cross.
A PRAYER OF SALVATION AND SURRENDER
Father, I acknowledge that I have sinned and cannot save myself. I believe Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. I repent and turn to You. I ask You to forgive me, cleanse me, and make me new. I receive Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. My life belongs to You. Teach me to walk with You from this day forward. In Jesus' name, Amen.
“BE SURE YOUR SIN WILL FIND YOU OUT.”
Numbers 32:23 is a warning.
But Calvary is an invitation.
Your sin can find you out.
Or—
you can bring your sin out and lay it at the feet of Jesus Christ.
Don't wait until judgment reveals what grace was willing to forgive.
Don't spend another day running from the God who already knows everything about you and still calls you to come.
No one gets away with anything.
But through Jesus Christ—
ANYONE CAN BE FORGIVEN.
