🙏 PLEASE DON'T FORGET NEPAL
A World in Pain Still Needs a Praying Church
There is a lot of ugliness in our world tonight.
War.
Hunger.
Violence.
Natural disasters.
Families displaced from their homes.
Children caught in circumstances they did not create.
People grieving loved ones.
Communities trying to rebuild.
Hospitals and humanitarian workers attempting to function amid conflict.
And tonight, there is another name that must not disappear beneath tomorrow's headlines:
🇳🇵 NEPAL.
Devastating flash floods struck Nepal on August 26. UNICEF reports that at least 17,000 children have been affected, with homes, classrooms, and medical facilities damaged. Hundreds of lives have reportedly been lost, many people remain missing, and survivors now face additional dangers including disease and malnutrition.
PLEASE DON'T FORGET NEPAL.
🌎 THE WORLD IS HURTING
It can become overwhelming.
We hear about one catastrophe in the morning and another before bedtime.
Yesterday's tragedy is pushed down the page by today's breaking news.
Eventually, something dangerous can happen to us:
WE BECOME ACCUSTOMED TO HUMAN SUFFERING.
Another war?
Keep scrolling.
Another flood?
Keep scrolling.
Another hungry child?
Keep scrolling.
Another hundred people dead?
Keep scrolling.
Church, we cannot allow ourselves to become that numb.
Behind every number is somebody's name.
Somebody's mother.
Somebody's father.
Somebody's child.
Somebody's husband.
Somebody's wife.
Somebody who went to bed expecting tomorrow to look much like yesterday.
And suddenly—
everything changed.
🇳🇵 TONIGHT, REMEMBER NEPAL
Imagine watching water, mud, rock, and debris sweep through everything familiar.
Your home.
Your community.
Your roads.
Your school.
Perhaps members of your family.
What would you want Christians thousands of miles away to do?
PRAY.
Not simply say:
“That's terrible.”
Pray.
Not simply share the story.
PRAY.
Not simply promise that Nepal will be “in our thoughts.”
TAKE NEPAL BEFORE GOD.
Pray for those still missing.
Pray for rescuers searching dangerous areas.
Pray for grieving families.
Pray for children who have experienced unimaginable trauma.
Pray for food, clean water, shelter, medicine, and sanitation.
Pray for roads and access routes.
Pray for humanitarian workers.
Pray for churches and Christian ministries serving people.
Pray that help reaches isolated communities quickly.
And pray that amid extraordinary darkness, people encounter the extraordinary compassion of Jesus Christ.
🇵🇭 DON'T FORGET THE PHILIPPINES
Our hearts also remain with communities in the Philippines that have faced heavy rains, flooding, tropical cyclones, evacuations, damaged infrastructure, and continuing disaster risks.
Earlier this month, the Philippine government ordered agencies to ensure assistance reached residents affected by the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, including people who had already returned from evacuation centers.
Please keep praying.
When the rain stops, the suffering doesn't automatically stop.
Homes still need repairing.
Food still needs replacing.
Livelihoods still need restoring.
Roads still need clearing.
Children still need caring for.
Families still need help.
💔 REMEMBER THOSE SUFFERING THROUGH WAR
Remember Sudan, where conflict and hunger continue to devastate communities.
Remember Gaza, where humanitarian conditions remain critical and access to reliable safe water continues to be a major challenge.
Remember South Sudan, where the World Food Programme has warned that severe funding shortages threaten food assistance while millions face acute food insecurity.
Remember Ukraine and every community where families continue living beneath the shadow of warfare.
Remember Myanmar.
Remember the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Remember those suffering whom television cameras never reach.
The United Nations reported this month that attacks against healthcare have continued across numerous conflict zones, including Ukraine, Lebanon, the Palestinian territories, Myanmar, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
THE PRAYER LIST IS LONG BECAUSE THE HURTING IS GREAT.
🍞 REMEMBER THE HUNGRY
Somebody will go to bed hungry tonight.
Not because they're dieting.
Not because they skipped dinner.
BECAUSE THERE IS NO DINNER.
Conflict-related food insecurity remains an enormous global problem. Current international assessments identify especially grave conditions and famine risks in places including Sudan, South Sudan, Gaza, and Somalia.
Think about that the next time we casually throw food away.
Then pray.
And where God has given us the ability—
HELP.
🙏 PRAYER IS NOT OUR LAST RESORT
Sometimes we say:
“Well, all we can do now is pray.”
As though prayer is what remains after everything useful has failed.
Christian, prayer isn't the emergency exit.
PRAYER SHOULD BE OUR FIRST RESPONSE.
Jesus said:
“Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” — Luke 18:1
We pray because we believe God hears.
We pray because circumstances beyond our reach are never beyond His.
We pray because governments have limitations.
Humanitarian organizations have limitations.
Missionaries have limitations.
Money has limitations.
Medicine has limitations.
GOD DOES NOT.
There are doors human beings cannot open.
There are hearts governments cannot change.
There are wounds money alone cannot heal.
There are situations diplomacy cannot resolve.
There is hatred legislation cannot remove from the human heart.
There is sin education cannot cure.
THERE ARE THINGS ONLY JESUS CHRIST CAN CHANGE.
🔑 FAITHFUL PRAYER IS STILL A KEY
The Church must rediscover prayer.
Not emergency-only prayer.
Not five hurried minutes when everything falls apart.
FAITHFUL PRAYER.
Persistent prayer.
Intercessory prayer.
Family prayer.
Church prayer.
Prayer when the answer hasn't arrived.
Prayer when the headlines become worse.
Prayer when we don't understand.
Prayer when the situation appears impossible.
Prayer that says:
“LORD, WE CANNOT FIX THIS—BUT WE KNOW YOU CAN MOVE.”
⚠️ OUT OF SIGHT CANNOT BECOME OUT OF MIND
The news cycle will move on.
It always does.
Nepal will eventually disappear from the front page.
Another crisis will replace it.
Another war.
Another storm.
Another earthquake.
Another tragedy.
But the families left behind will still be rebuilding their lives.
DON'T LET YOUR PRAYERS MOVE ON AS QUICKLY AS THE HEADLINES DO.
Write these places down.
Put them beside your Bible.
Add them to your family's prayer list.
Mention them during church prayer.
When God brings a country or people to your mind—
PRAY.
You may never travel there.
You may never know their names.
But you can carry them before the throne of grace.
🙏 LET'S PRAY FOR OUR WORLD
Heavenly Father,
Our world is hurting.
Tonight we bring before You people experiencing circumstances we cannot begin to understand.
Lord, remember Nepal.
Comfort grieving families.
Strengthen rescue workers.
Protect those searching for the missing.
Provide food, shelter, medicine, clean water, and safe access to devastated communities.
Protect the children.
Bring help quickly.
Remember the Philippines.
Protect communities from storms, flooding, landslides, volcanic dangers, hunger, and displacement.
Strengthen those serving on the front lines.
Remember Sudan, South Sudan, Gaza, Ukraine, Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and every nation experiencing war, violence, hunger, persecution, and displacement.
Remember the refugee.
Remember the orphan.
Remember the widow.
Remember the hungry.
Remember the homeless.
Remember those trapped beneath rubble.
Remember those sleeping in evacuation centers.
Remember humanitarian workers and missionaries.
Remember the frightened child asking whether everything will be all right.
Father, where hatred reigns—
bring peace.
Where hunger exists—
send provision.
Where people are grieving—
send comfort.
Where darkness appears overwhelming—
let the light of Jesus Christ shine.
And Lord, don't allow us to become so comfortable that another person's suffering no longer moves us.
Give us compassionate hearts.
Move us beyond words when You give us opportunities to help.
And teach Your Church again to pray until prayer becomes as natural to us as breathing.
We cannot fix this world.
BUT WE KNOW THE ONE WHO CAN CHANGE HEARTS, HEAL WOUNDS, SAVE SOULS, AND BRING HOPE INTO IMPOSSIBLE PLACES.
His name is Jesus Christ.
In His name we pray,

The world has enough spectators.
