🚨PHILIPPINES FLOODING CRISIS: PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM

When the Rain Doesn't Stop, Life Doesn't Simply Go Back to Normal

There comes a point when rain is no longer an inconvenience.

It becomes a crisis.

For many families in the Philippines, repeated torrential rains and flooding associated with recent tropical weather have disrupted something most of us take for granted:

Normal life.

When roads flood, people cannot always get to work.

When people cannot work, they may not get paid.

When there is no income, buying rice, vegetables, medicine, drinking water, school supplies, and other necessities becomes increasingly difficult.

When communities remain flooded, children may have difficulty getting to school.

And when families are already living from one paycheck—or one day's wages—to the next, several days of disruption can quickly become a serious emergency.

This is where many people find themselves.

And the threat of additional severe weather makes the situation even more concerning.

BEHIND EVERY FLOODED ROAD IS A STORY

When we watch videos of flooding, it can be easy to see only the water.

But look again.

Behind that flooded road is a father wondering whether he can get to work tomorrow.

Behind that submerged community is a mother wondering what she will feed her children.

Behind that closed school is a child whose education has once again been interrupted.

Behind that damaged home may be an elderly person wondering where help will come from.

Behind every photograph and every short video clip are real people trying to survive a very difficult season.

These are not merely statistics.

These are people.

Mothers.

Fathers.

Children.

Grandparents.

Workers.

Students.

Families.

And many are tired.

WHEN YOU CANNOT WORK, EVERYTHING CHANGES

This is one aspect of disasters that people sometimes overlook.

The storm may pass.

The rain may eventually stop.

The water may eventually recede.

But that does not mean the crisis immediately ends.

Imagine missing several days of work when your family depends upon your daily income.

The electric bill is still coming.

Food is still needed.

Medicine still has to be purchased.

Transportation still costs money.

Children still have needs.

Homes still need repairs.

And whatever little savings a family may have had can disappear very quickly.

For families already struggling economically, a natural disaster does not merely interrupt life—it can push an already vulnerable household over the edge.

That is why assistance during these moments matters so much.

“BUT MY GIFT ISN'T VERY MUCH”

Never underestimate what God can do with something placed into His hands.

A small contribution from one person may not rebuild an entire community.

But perhaps it buys food for a family.

Perhaps it provides drinking water.

Perhaps it helps someone purchase medicine.

Perhaps it helps a child return to school.

Perhaps several small gifts joined together become something much larger.

The question is not always:

“Can I solve the whole problem?”

Sometimes the question is simply:

“Can I help one person?”

Jesus said:

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” — Matthew 25:40

One family matters.

One child matters.

One meal matters.

One act of compassion matters.

One life matters.

PLEASE DON'T BECOME NUMB TO THEIR SUFFERING

We live in a world where another tragedy appears on our screens almost every day.

Another storm.

Another flood.

Another earthquake.

Another war.

Another family suffering somewhere.

After a while, there is a danger that our hearts become accustomed to seeing suffering.

We scroll.

We watch.

We shake our heads.

And then we move on.

But Christians cannot allow compassion fatigue to silence compassion.

Galatians 6:2 tells us:

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

Sometimes bearing someone's burden begins with prayer.

Sometimes it means giving.

Sometimes it means sharing their story.

Sometimes it means telling someone else:

“There are people who need us.”

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE PHILIPPINES

We are asking everyone reading this to pray.

🙏 Pray for families living in flooded communities.

🙏 Pray for those unable to work.

🙏 Pray for parents struggling to provide food.

🙏 Pray for children whose schooling has been disrupted.

🙏 Pray for elderly and vulnerable residents.

🙏 Pray for emergency workers, local officials, churches, ministries, volunteers, and relief organizations.

🙏 Pray for protection from additional severe weather.

🙏 Pray that floodwaters will recede.

🙏 Pray that necessary resources will reach the people who need them most.

And pray that God will show each of us whether there is something more we can do.

PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM

THE WATER CAN RISE—BUT SO CAN COMPASSION

There is tremendous suffering in our world.

But there is also tremendous good that can happen when people refuse to look the other way.

The floodwaters may be deep.

The rain may continue to fall.

The needs may appear overwhelming.

But God's people can still pray.

God's people can still give.

God's people can still serve.

God's people can still love.

And God's people can still show up.

Philippines, we have not forgotten you.

To every family struggling:

We see you.

To every parent wondering how you will make it:

We are praying for you.

To every child whose normal life has been interrupted:

You matter.

To everyone wondering whether anyone outside your community cares:

Yes, we care.

And to everyone reading this who has the ability to help:

THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO BE THE HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS.

Please pray.

Please give as God leads you.
