🔥 LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

STOP CALLING EVERYTHING “PROGRESS” JUST BECAUSE IT'S NEW

Somewhere along the way, society adopted a dangerous assumption:

NEWER MUST MEAN BETTER.

New morality.

New definitions.

New standards.

New ideas about family.

New ideas about sexuality.

New definitions of right and wrong.

New explanations for behaviors Scripture has addressed for thousands of years.

And whenever biblical truth refuses to change with the culture, somebody inevitably declares:

“The Bible is outdated.”

No.

THE BIBLE IS UNCHANGED.

There is a difference.

📖 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.” — Psalm 119:89

Truth doesn't become false because it becomes unpopular.

Sin doesn't become righteousness because society gives it a nicer name.

Wrong doesn't become right because enough people vote for it.

And God's Word doesn't require modernization every time culture changes its mind.

WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT.

We have become masters at changing terminology without changing reality.

We don't want conviction—we want affirmation.

We don't want repentance—we want acceptance.

We don't want anyone telling us something is wrong—we want somebody to explain why what we're already doing should be considered right.

But Jesus Christ didn't come merely to make us comfortable with ourselves.

HE CAME TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS.

That's not hatred.

That's the Gospel.

And Christians must be extremely careful that our desire to be accepted by culture doesn't eventually cause us to become indistinguishable from it.

Jesus said:

“Ye are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:14

Light doesn't help darkness by becoming darker.

LIGHT SHINES.

That doesn't give Christians permission to become arrogant, cruel, hateful, or self-righteous.

Quite the opposite.

Speak truth.

BUT SPEAK IT WITH LOVE.

Stand firm.

BUT REMAIN HUMBLE.

Refuse compromise.

BUT NEVER STOP SHOWING COMPASSION.

Love the alcoholic—but don't tell him alcoholism is freedom.

Love the addict—but don't celebrate the addiction.

Love the adulterer—but don't redefine adultery.

Love the sinner—

BECAUSE EVERY ONE OF US NEEDED SOMEBODY TO LOVE US WHILE TELLING US THE TRUTH.

Including me.

The Church doesn't help people by removing the warning signs from roads leading toward destruction.

Sometimes love has to say:

“PLEASE DON'T GO THAT WAY.”

And sometimes the most compassionate word in the English language is:

NO.

No, that isn't God's best for you.

No, everybody isn't doing it.

No, popularity doesn't make it right.

No, you don't have to follow the crowd.

No, your past doesn't have to determine your future.

No, your sin is not greater than God's grace.

And no—

YOU ARE NOT TOO FAR GONE FOR JESUS CHRIST.

That's the other half of truth that Christians must never forget.

We aren't standing beside the road merely shouting warnings.

WE ARE POINTING TOWARD THE WAY HOME.

His name is Jesus.

Maybe society doesn't need a newer Gospel.

Maybe it needs Christians courageous enough to live the one we already have.

Tonight, when you look at yourself in the mirror, don't ask whether today's culture approves of you.

Ask:

“LORD, ARE YOU PLEASED WITH THE WAY I LIVED TODAY?”

That's the audience that ultimately matters.

TRUTH DOESN'T NEED UPDATING. WE DO.
