📌 QUESTION OF THE WEEK — JUNE 23, 2026

❓ WHAT IS THE BIBLICAL RESPONSE WHEN A SPOUSE HAS BEEN UNFAITHFUL?

Matthew (23) from Pascagoula, Mississippi, writes:

"Good morning, Pastor James. Thank you for reading my question and responding to it. My parents, both Christians, are struggling with this issue. I won't say who was unfaithful, but it has reached the point where only God can save their marriage. I hope you can give me something I can share with them."

Matthew, thank you for your honesty and courage.

Marital infidelity is one of the deepest wounds a person can experience. It shatters trust, damages intimacy, and leaves emotional and spiritual scars. Yet while adultery is a grievous sin, it does not automatically mean a marriage is beyond hope.

Jesus acknowledged adultery as a legitimate ground for divorce (Matthew 19:9), but Scripture also reveals God's heart for forgiveness, repentance, and restoration whenever possible.

For the unfaithful spouse, genuine repentance is essential. Confession, accountability, honesty, and a willingness to rebuild trust must follow. For the wounded spouse, healing begins by bringing the pain to God rather than allowing bitterness to take root.

Restoration is not easy. It requires humility, prayer, counseling, patience, and the work of the Holy Spirit in both hearts. Some marriages survive infidelity and become stronger than before. Others do not. Every situation is unique.

If your family is facing this battle, do not walk through it alone. Seek godly counsel, stay rooted in Scripture, and trust the Lord to guide each step.

📖 "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18

🙏 We're praying for you, Matthew, your parents, and every family facing the pain of betrayal and broken trust.
