Why I Wrote This Book... And Why Its Message Is More Relevant Than Ever
"And the LORD said unto Samuel... for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them." — 1 Samuel 8:7
Every generation has looked for someone who could solve its problems.
A great leader.
A gifted politician.
A charismatic speaker.
A visionary reformer.
Someone who could restore order, unite a divided people, strengthen a struggling nation, and lead everyone into a brighter future.
History teaches us that every generation eventually discovers the same truth:
No human leader can carry the expectations that belong to God alone.
That timeless lesson is the heartbeat behind my book,
And the People Cried, "Give Us a King!" (Second Edition).
Why I Wrote This Book
As I watched the political climate become increasingly polarized over the years, I noticed something deeper than elections, campaigns, and public policy.
People were placing almost unlimited hope in elected officials.
To some, the next leader would solve every problem.
To others, that same leader represented the source of every problem.
Both expectations overlooked a fundamental biblical truth.
Government matters.
Leadership matters.
Justice matters.
But no president, king, prime minister, governor, parliament, or congress can transform the human heart.
Only God can do that.
That realization led me back to one of Scripture's most revealing passages—1 Samuel 8.
Israel did not simply ask for a king.
They asked for one because they wanted to be like the surrounding nations.
In doing so, they exchanged dependence upon God for confidence in human leadership.
God granted their request.
But He also warned them about the consequences.
That account continues to speak powerfully to every generation.
More Than Ancient History
Some readers may wonder,
"What does an event that happened thousands of years ago have to do with today?"
The answer is...
Everything.
Human nature has not changed.
We still wrestle with fear.
We still seek security.
We still long for stability.
We still hope someone will fix what is broken.
Those desires are understandable.
But when our confidence in political leaders begins to replace our confidence in God, we place a burden on people that no person was ever created to bear.
That is not fair to them.
And it is not faithful to Him.

This book is not about political parties.
It is not an endorsement of one candidate over another.
Nor is it an attack on government.
Instead, it explores biblical principles that remain true regardless of who occupies positions of authority.

Expectations No One Can Meet
One of the greatest tragedies in public life is the unrealistic expectations placed upon leaders.
Some expect them to solve every economic problem.
Others expect them to eliminate crime.
End every war.
Heal every division.
Restore every family.
Correct every injustice.
No human being possesses that ability.
When impossible expectations are placed upon imperfect people, disappointment inevitably follows.
Scripture never teaches us to worship leaders.
It teaches us to pray for them.
Respect lawful authority.
Pursue justice.
Seek peace.
And remember that every earthly government is temporary.
God's Kingdom alone is eternal.
The King We Truly Need
The Bible points us beyond every earthly throne.
Its pages ultimately lead us to one King.
Jesus Christ.
Unlike every human ruler, His wisdom is perfect.
His justice is flawless.
His mercy never fails.
His promises never change.
His reign will never end.
That does not mean Christians should withdraw from civic responsibility.
On the contrary, believers should be responsible citizens, pray faithfully for those in authority, and seek the welfare of their communities.
But our ultimate hope has never rested in Washington, London, Manila, Jerusalem, or any other capital city.
Our hope rests in the King of kings and Lord of lords.
Why This Message Matters Today
Every election cycle reminds us how easily people can become consumed by politics.
Conversations become heated.
Friendships become strained.
Families become divided.
Churches sometimes suffer unnecessary tension.
Yet long after elections pass...
Jesus Christ is still Lord.
The Gospel is still the power of God unto salvation.
The Church still has a mission.
The Great Commission still stands.
That perspective changes everything.

A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding us that while earthly governments rise and fall, Your Kingdom stands forever. Give wisdom to those who serve in positions of authority, and help us to pray faithfully for them. Guard our hearts from placing ultimate hope in human leaders rather than in You. Teach us to live as faithful citizens of both our earthly nations and, above all, Your eternal Kingdom. May our lives reflect the character of Jesus Christ, our true King.

One Final Thought
History is filled with remarkable leaders.
Some inspired generations.
Others disappointed them.
All were human.
All were imperfect.
Only one King has never failed His people.
His name is Jesus Christ.
May we honor those who lead us, pray for them faithfully, fulfill our responsibilities as citizens, and never forget where our greatest hope has always belonged.
