📖 Words of Encouragement – A Daily Devotional
🌿 The Dangers of Pride and Self-Interest 🌿
📖 “Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?” — 2 Chronicles 25:15
In 2 Chronicles 25:15, we see King Amaziah make a troubling decision. After a great victory, instead of honoring the one true God, he turned to the gods of the Edomites—a people God had just defeated. His pride led him to misplaced trust, and it stirred the anger of the Lord.
Amaziah’s story is a powerful warning. Success can quietly open the door to pride. When things go well, it becomes easy to rely on our own strength instead of God’s provision.
But misplaced trust always leads to spiritual decline.
God desires our full dependence—not only in hardship, but also in victory. True success is not found in what we achieve, but in who we honor.
Let us guard our hearts. Stay humble. Stay grateful. Stay dependent on God.
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, forgive me for pride and self-reliance. Teach me to trust You completely and give You glory in every season. Keep my heart humble and anchored in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
