SUICIDE: The Elephant in the Room

Suicide is one of the greatest tragedies of our generation, yet too often it remains the conversation no one wants to have.

The numbers are heartbreaking. In the United States alone, nearly 49,000 people died by suicide in 2024. Millions more seriously considered, planned, or attempted suicide. Behind every statistic is a family forever changed, a church left grieving, and friends asking, "What could I have done?"

What works? Listening without judgment. Taking warning signs seriously. Offering compassionate support. Encouraging professional care when needed. Most importantly, pointing people to the hope found in Jesus Christ.

What doesn't work? Silence. Shame. Pretending the problem doesn't exist. Telling hurting people to "just get over it." Isolation only gives despair a louder voice.

Some ask, "If even pastors or faithful church members have died by suicide, does the Gospel really work?"

The answer is yes.

The failures, struggles, or tragedies experienced by human beings do not diminish the saving, healing, and delivering power of Jesus Christ. Our confidence has never been in human perfection but in a perfect Savior. Christ still forgives. Christ still restores. Christ still delivers from every form of bondage. And even when someone is overwhelmed by suffering, the invitation of Jesus remains: "Come unto Me."

If you're carrying burdens that seem too heavy, don't suffer alone. Reach out to someone you trust. Ask for help. Let others pray with you. There is hope, and your life has immeasurable value because you were created in the image of God.

📖 "The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart..." (Psalms 34:18)

"If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or considering suicide, call or text 988 (U.S.) or contact your local emergency services immediately."
