❓ PREMARITAL SEX — WHY ARE CHRISTIANS SO STRONGLY AGAINST IT?

"Pastor James, it was an honor speaking with you recently. A friend I met through Twitter asked me why Christians are so opposed to premarital sex. I knew the biblical answer was no, but she wouldn't accept that alone. Then I remembered you answer questions like these. Could you give me something I can share with her? Randy, thank you for your honesty and for asking a question many people are thinking.
Sex outside of marriage has become widely accepted in today's culture. Casual sex, cohabitation, and "friends with benefits" relationships are often portrayed as normal—even healthy. Scripture, however, presents a different standard—not because God wants to withhold joy, but because He wants to protect us.
Many ask, "If two consenting adults love each other, why should God care?" The answer is that sexual intimacy is far more than a physical act. It creates a deep emotional and spiritual bond that God designed to flourish within the lifelong covenant of marriage.
God's instructions are not rooted in legalism but in love. He sees the heartache, broken trust, and lasting consequences that often follow sexual relationships outside His design. His boundaries are expressions of His wisdom, not restrictions meant to diminish life.
The world says sex before marriage is normal. God says sex within marriage is sacred.
If this has been part of your past, don't lose hope. God's grace is greater than our failures. Through Jesus Christ there is forgiveness, restoration, and a new beginning for everyone who turns to Him.
