WHO WILL TEACH THE CHILDREN?
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” — Proverbs 22:6
We are witnessing a dramatic shift in parenting and family values, unlike anything many of us have seen before. A growing number of children who were raised in Christian homes are now choosing not to teach their own children the biblical principles they themselves were taught. Instead, many parents are saying, “I want my kids to decide for themselves about God, Heaven, Hell, Jesus, and church.”
But we must ask ourselves a difficult question: Is silence really neutrality?
Every child is being taught by someone. If parents do not shape their children spiritually, then culture, social media, entertainment, influencers, universities, peer pressure, and an increasingly godless world gladly will. The issue is not whether children will learn—it is who they will learn from.
Did the Lord intend for Christian parents and grandparents to completely step back and leave eternal matters to chance? Scripture repeatedly shows parents teaching, guiding, correcting, praying, and modeling truth before the next generation. Faith was never meant to skip a generation.
At the same time, wisdom is needed. Christian parents and grandparents cannot force salvation into a person’s heart. Fear-driven control often pushes people farther away. But love, consistency, prayer, patience, and a godly example still carry tremendous power. Sometimes, the greatest sermon a child will ever hear is the life faithfully lived before them.
So what should we do?
Pray without ceasing. Speak truth with grace. Live authentically before your children and grandchildren. Keep the doors of conversation open. Plant seeds. Water them with love. Trust God for the increase.
Is there hope for tomorrow’s youth? Absolutely. God is still saving lives, changing hearts, restoring prodigals, and calling young people to Himself even in the middle of confusion and compromise. The darkness may be growing, but the light of Christ still shines.
The next generation is not hopeless—but they desperately need direction.
