Title: Clark Kent Christians: Are You Hiding Your Light?
By James Langston | joybells49.blogspot.com
A few weeks ago, I asked a question on TikTok that resonated with many and rattled a few:
“Are you a Clark Kent Christian?” https://tinyurl.com/npmrett3
You know—the one who looks ordinary, blends in, avoids confrontation, and never really lets the world know they follow Jesus. A mild-mannered believer by day… but never really showing up when the moment calls for truth and courage.
To my surprise, the video took off—nearing 1,000 views. The majority were supportive, but the pushback? That’s where it got interesting. Some felt the message was “too judgmental” or “unnecessary.” But I ask you this:
What does the Bible say about hiding your light?
Matthew 5:14-16 declares:
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
“In the same way, let your light shine before others…”
That doesn’t sound like a secret identity to me.
π§Salt and Light Isn’t a Suggestion—It’s Our Assignment
Christians weren’t called to camouflage faith. We were called to carry the truth, even when it’s unpopular. Even when it gets criticized. Even when it costs us friends, followers, or favor.
And let’s be honest—we’re living in a time where right is called wrong, and wrong is celebrated as brave. In a culture like this, being neutral is not being faithful. Silence is often compliance.
That’s why now—more than ever—we need bold believers. Men and women who aren’t ashamed of the Gospel. Who speak truth in love. Who walk with grace but refuse to bow to the gods of culture.
π Righteousness Over Relevance
Someone once said:
“I’d rather be on the right side of righteousness than on the right side of unrighteousness.”
That statement speaks volumes. In an age of compromise, righteousness is revolutionary.
And Jesus made it clear—if we’re ashamed of Him before men, He will be ashamed of us before the Father (Luke 9:26). That’s not fear-mongering. That’s truth.
So ask yourself today:
-
Are you a follower of Christ in name only?
-
Have you allowed fear, pride, or comfort to silence your witness?
-
Is your faith visible… or disguised like Clark Kent?
If the world can’t see Jesus in us, then we’ve failed the mission.
✨ This is your reminder:
Take off the disguise.
Let your light shine.
Speak His name with boldness.
The world doesn’t need another hidden Christian—it needs a visible Church.
